What is Graston Technique®?
Graston Technique® is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. Scar tissue or adhesions prevent the smooth movement of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and surrounding tissues.
Have you ever described your complaint as “tight” or noticed pain when you put the muscle through an active range of motion? If you answered yes, you have experienced the binding effects of the scar tissue.
Fascia is the thin layer of tissue that covers every organ, muscle, and tendon in the human body. It provides structural support to all underlying structures. When scar tissue forms, it can adhere the fascia to the muscles impairing your function (range of motion) and producing pain.
The Graston Technique® breaks down and releases the scar tissue. The stainless steel tools are uniquely designed to treat different areas of the body. The instruments allow clinicians to effectively treat deep tissue dysfunctions by allowing them to get deep into the tissue as necessary to evoke change while being sensitive to the patients’ tolerance. When the instrument contacts the adhesion, both the clinician and patient will notice the distinct feeling of a “ropey fiber” or grittiness underneath the skin.
